Introduction

Written and electronic documentation in the medical record is an important part of delivering healthcare. Nurses working in the correctional setting have all the same accountability for delivering and documenting care as those working in traditional settings along with some unique risks and liabilities that need attention.

Objectives:

After participating in this educational session, you will be able to:

  1. Outline the purpose and process of healthcare documentation.
  2. Describe standard documentation principles as they apply to the unique correctional setting.
  3. Explain the liability risks of under and over documentation in this specialty.

Requirements for successful completion are to view the chapter videos, answer the case scenario questions, and complete each chapter’s review question. A final exam must be completed. You may find the “final” exam under the “Take My Test” tab. A score of 80% or higher is needed to pass the course.
