Chapter 1: Introduction and Management of High-Risk Obstetrical Patients

This course is designed for nurses who are involved in any stage of high-risk pre and perinatal care. This course is designed to raise awareness of high-risk prenatal morbidity and mortality rates and to promote knowledge of the guidelines for high-risk obstetrical care, to reduce health disparities and improve patient outcomes. 

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Display knowledge of prenatal risk factors and their potential effects on both mother and baby
  • Identify diagnostic studies that should be completed in relation to prenatal risk factors
  • Apply knowledge of existing health disparities regarding prenatal outcomes
  • Outline measurable goals that will improve fetal and maternal outcomes
  • Demonstrate patient teaching points that relate to high-risk prenatal care
