Chapter 1: Introduction

Women can face several health challenges throughout pregnancy include dealing with a concurrent diagnosis of diabetes. Prior to becoming pregnant many women have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, while others are first diagnosed with diabetes when their pregnancy is confirmed. Diabetes is one of the most frequently occurring medical complications during pregnancy occurring in 3.3% of all live births.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  2. Explain the risk factors associated with diabetes during pregnancy.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of pharmacologic management of diabetes during pregnancy.
