Chapter 1: Description

Port VS. Other Central Venous Access Devices

So, what is an implanted venous port and how does it differ from other types of central venous access devices? That’s a good question. There are four types of central venous access devices: PICC, non-tunneled CVAD, tunneled CVAD, and implanted port. They all have certain characteristics in common and certain differences.

PICC                                          TRIPLE LUMEN SUBCLAVIAN (NON TUNNELED)

DOUBLE LUMEN HICKMAN (TUNNELED)                                IMPLANTED PORT
